2. CyberSoft Achieves Anti-Virus Checkmark Level One Status

CyberSoft is pleased to announce that it has achieved Anti-Virus Level One status with Checkmark. For a product to be certified Anti-Virus Checkmark Level One, the product must be able to detect all those viruses which are "in the wild." This gives a clear and independent indication to end users of those anti-virus products than can be relied on.

To see CyberSoft's entry on the Checkmark page, go to http://www.check-mark.com/checkmark/ph_cybersoft.html .

3. CyberSoft announces the release of VSTK/P 167 (May 25, 2004)

What's New in VFind Security ToolKit Version 167 (this information applies to VSTK and VSTKP)

Here is a brief summary of the changes for each component in this release of the toolkit. If the component is not listed here, then there are no changes made for this release.

MiniWeb - Version 2.1

The 167 release of vstk and vstkp contains the second release of the new Graphical User Interface for the vstk tools. The GUI provides a user friendly interface for using VFind, UAD, CIT, and Avatar (for the professional edition). Please point your web browser to $VSTK_HOME/docs/html/Miniweb-User-Manual.html for instructions on how to start the web server which supports the GUI. We welcome your feedback!

Added the capability to cancel a command initiated from the MiniWeb graphical interface.

VFind - Version 14.0.4

Added the '--exit-on-vdl-error' command line option which allows users to tell VFind to exit if any errors are detected when reading in the .vdl files.

Fix bug in processing the path name of the vdl.list file and the vdl update lock file.

Modified ".COM" file type check for emulator to also accept the 'unknown' file type and emulate that as a .COM. Added the emu configuration option 'do_unknown' (default off).

UAD - Version 3.12.14

UAD's zip and RAR expanders can decrypt encrypted zip and RAR archive files. If an archived file cannot be decrypted the file is still extracted from the archive and is typed as 'encrypted'. An encrypted zip archive is typed as 'encrypted zip archive' whether or not the file can be decrypted. An encrypted RAR archive is typed as 'encrypted RAR archive' whether or not the file can be decrypted.

A function has been added to UAD to find potential passwords for decrypting encrypted zip and RAR archives. The function scans the previously created component files attached to the encrypted archive file for the password strings. The decrypt functions use the passwords until one succeeds or the list is exhausted.

UAD's zip and RAR expanders also use the passwords listed in the $VSTK_HOME/data/vfind/password.uad file for decrypting archive files. This feature complements UAD's find-password function and is intended to address cases where UAD would not find the password for decrypting an archive file, for example, when the password is stored in an image file. Password.uad is a text file with one password per line. The maximum number of passwords is 1024. UAD tries each password in password.uad until one succeeds or the list is exhausted. A large number of entries in password.uad have potential to slow the processing of encrypted archive files.

MVFilter Version 5.1.3

MVFilter now removes the macro name as well as the macro definition from the target file.

4. CyberSoft International Releases SafeInternetEmail v3.4.1

Based on feedback from our many academic, corporate, and government customers we have further enhanced some of our core functionality. One of the key features was an enhancement to our bad extension blocking, so that executables and other files were blocked even if contained within an encrypted zip file. This has helped many customers proactively protect against the latest encrypted virus threats.

"We were up the proverbial creek without a paddle until we found out about SIE. Users were opening viruses that were disguised as legitimate attachments to e-mails. Spam clogged our mailboxes. Enter SIE - no more viruses through e-mail, no more spam. I finally have peace of mind on these issues. Thanks SIE!"

- Larry Bean, Paris School District

We will continue to evolve SafeInternetEmail so we maintain our tenure as a trusted e-mail management application. Watch for our next release in July, which will include the capability to opt-in to CyberSoft's honey pot network, domain level white/black lists, and additional content matching capabilities. For more information go to http://www.safeinternetemail.com or contact us at (800) 781-7262.
