VSTK & VSTKP NEW VERSION 165 TO BE AVAILABLE IN FEBRUARY 2004.

The VSTK/P Package Release 165 will be available in February 2004. This new version contains several enhancements, including a new automated VDL upgrade system, improved faster logical OR operation in VFind, and RAR decoding in UAD. In addition, all of the example scripts have been rewritten and new examples have been written. In general, this new release is a significant enhancement over all prior releases and is strongly recommended. The new automated VDL upgrade system can be pointed to an upgrade server on your internal network.

AVATAR UPGRADE OFFER (Expires November 3, 2003)

We feel that our VSTK/P product is not receiving the attention it deserves. The difference between VSTK and VSTKP is the Avatar program. One competing program to Avatar has a selling price starting at $50,000.00 per server, plus “per seat” charges. The entire VSTKP product sells for only $2,400.00 per system, which makes it a bargain compared to others; in addition, there are no “per seat” charges. For customers who already own VSTK, and want to upgrade to VSTKP, there is no upgrade path. For a limited time, we are offering an upgrade path from VSTK to VSTKP with the trade-in of your VSTK license, for only $1,600.00 each. The part number for the upgrade is VSKTPUG. This offer expires at 1700 HRS Eastern Time on November 3, 2003, and is not expected to be offered again. Orders for this product will not be accepted beyond that time, and the part number will be purged from the system.

The Avatar program maintains baseline control of your system, which, in effect, allows your system to heal itself after software damage. You define what parts of your system baseline (software and files only) you want protected, and in what way. Avatar compiles this configuration into an Avatar database, which you can then use as a baseline when running Avatar Check. If Avatar Check determines that anything in your system no longer conforms to your baseline configuration, the Avatar system restores it. Avatar can be run from cron, command line, scripts or shelled from a program. For more details on Avatar see the White paper “Secrets of the VFind Security Tool Kit Professional Plus

Type 10 License Keys In Development

We have heard your request for more, and better, tracking of your software licenses and improved System Administration automation. In order to accomplish both of these demands, we are developing a new software activation key, Type 10. Currently, all CyberSoft products use Type 9 keys. The Type 9 key will continue to work with new versions of VSTK, VSTKP and VSTKCW for the foreseeable future. In addition to all of the current information contained in the Type 9 key, the Type 10 keys contains whatever purchase order information you, the Customer, want stored so you can view it directly locally. Finally, the Type 10 keys contain a maintenance userid and password that a future version of the automated update program will use to perform seamless upgrades of your VDL files. If you have any suggestions for additional enhancements you would like to see in the Type 10 key, contact Pete Radatti, at radatti@cyber.com

CYBERSOFT.COM and CYBER.COM

Long time customers will remember that CyberSoft’s original web site domain name was CYBER.COM. Starting a couple of years ago, the CYBER.COM and CYBERSOFT.COM domains pointed to the same site. That changed in late July 2003, when CYBERSOFT.COM became the main web site for CyberSoft Operating Corporation and CYBER.COM became a product oriented portal for CyberSoft product. Now you have two web sites where once there was just one. As a side note, the CYBER.COM domain receives over 1,500,000 views per month.

NEW AUTOMATED UPDATE PROGRAM

Starting in VSTK/P Package Release 165, there is a new VDL update program called VDLupdate. This program can be run from cron, command line or even shelled from your own program; in addition, VDLupdate is written in script so the entire source is available for modification. Finally, VDLupdate can be pointed to one of your own servers. If you configure each of your systems to point to your own internal server, that one server can then grab the updates from CyberSoft and deliver them internally. This will save you bandwidth. Customers who own networks without an Internet connection can also use this system by burning the update to a CD-ROM and then copying the update to your internal update server. The program uses the WGET program which is available via public license. CyberSoft will provide both compiled and source copies of WGET with the distribution.

AVA (Not Gardner!)

Project AVA has been in development for almost a decade at CyberSoft. AVA stands for Automated Virus Analysis, and is patent pending. The current production system is doing analysis of 6 virus samples every 40 minutes, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. That is 216 virus samples per day or 1,512 samples per week. We expect to enhance this to 6 virus samples every 15 minutes for a total of 4,032 virus samples per week. While AVA generates good virus analysis and VDL output it still requires review by a human. That human remains Barbara Higgins. If you have any questions about our VDL files or virus samples, you can email her at higgins@cyber.com . To send virus samples to her, use the email address virus@cyber.com

Consolidation of Maintenance and Support (M&S) Contracts

CyberSoft is pleased to offer our Customers the option to choose their own M&S Expiration Dates; in addition, Customers may consolidate several different Expiration Dates to expire on a single date. This is an excellent opportunity for any Customer who operates within the framework of a Fiscal Year. Please contact Neil Woodland for details at woodland@cyber.com.
