IMPORTANT NOTICE

July 10, 2001

To: CyberSoft Customers

Dear Friends of CyberSoft,

This is the first of a series of important messages I expect to send to you this year. These messages will cover topics that are important to existing CyberSoft customers. They are not sales pitches and I will attempt to keep them short. This message is the most important since it lays the foundation for all of the work we expect to do this year and consequently how our products work.

If you are a CyberSoft Maintenance customer or you purchased your product within 1 year then you will receive all of these enhancements at no additional cost as part of your maintenance agreement. If you are not a Maintenance customer then you need to become one soon. The reason for the urgency is that we will have a price increase on August 1, 2001 for VSTK, VSTKP and their Internet maintenance products VSTKMSI and VSTKPMSI. In addition, for customers that are already in a purchase cycle you can request that we hold the old price for a specific number of days. As always, we WILL NOT charge a per-seat price. We remain one box, one price.

CyberSoft has been making great technical strides in the improvement of our products. In fact, many of the improvements that we expect to release are the same features that you requested in our recent customer survey. Most of these changes are patent pending. The first of these improvements will show up in the new release of VSTK and VSTKP that is due out later this month. This will bring us from VSTK Package Version 157R3 to VSTK Package Version 158. The 158 release includes the following:

VFind changes from Version 10.2 to 12.1.0

  • This version uses substantially less RAM memory during execution.
  • It is significantly faster.
  • It has new CVDL language constructs that are needed for new types of viruses.
  • The pattern analysis engines were significantly strengthened.
  • A new "technical foundation" was put in place for enhancements we expect to release at a later date.
  • CIT changes from Version 2.8.1 to 3.1.0
    1. The new version runs faster.
    2. The clock time used for a CIT-UAD-VFIND combination will be much less because of a new "work ahead" technology that we implemented.
    3. A new optional feature called "Duplicate Contents" reports all files in the CIT.DB with the same contents.
    4. A new optional feature called "Danger File" that identifies dangerous files by their cryptographic hash code.
    5. A new optional feature called "File Changed". This allows you to write scripts to test the contents of specific files to see if they have changed.

MVFilter changes from Version 4.0 to 5.1.0

    1. All known problems were fixed.
    2. Added new technology called Raven™ that eliminates "virus ghosts". This is a significant feature that insures other products won't falsely detect a virus that was disinfected. It will even work on files that were disinfected by products other than CyberSoft's. I believe that this is the first product to offer this feature.

MDview is being released at Version Beta

MDview stands for Macro Digest Viewer. This new product is being included in all future releases of VSTK and VSTKP. It searches OLE documents for Macros and writes them to a file. This is very important for customers who wish to view Macro viruses directly such as when a new virus is discovered. In addition, if you can not send us file samples for analysis you can run MDview and send us the stripped output which should only consist of the virus.

VUpdate is being released at Version Beta

VUpdate is an automated Internet update system designed for use with VSTK and VSTKP. It will automatically tunnel a firewall to determine if a new VDL file is available or if new binaries need to be installed. The product is under the full control of the system administrator who can choose to have the update cached for their inspection. Overhead for use of this product is minimal and it is fully cronable. It can even be run every hour without causing system or network duress.

New Products and Technical White Papers

CyberSoft has created two new products. WAVE? Antivirus for Windows and Safe Internet Email™. WAVE is not yet on the market. We will let you know when it is. Safe Internet Email (SIE) is an Internet service, normally called an Application Service Provider product. It was created using VSTK and scripts. Since some of our customers are also processing email commercially we decided to release some of the technology used by SIE. The first part of this release is available at here You can also learn about SIE at www.safeinternetemail.com Later this year we expect to add enhancements to our proprietary Smart Scan? System and release the source code to Smart Scan Read and Smart Scan Write. This will allow you to write applications that directly talk to and control UAD and VFind via a standard pipe. Finally, there are a lot of new white papers located here Take a look and feel free to comment.

    Have a great summer,
